Market Updates, News, and Trends

1) Yelp is becoming a bigger restaurant reservation threat to OpenTable

Although Yelp may not be the most popular or preferred choice from restaurants, it is for your guests. They’re already using Yelp to get a better understanding of experiences that other guests have had at your establishment, so why not make that next step to reserving at your place easier for them?

According to Skift, OpenTable is the most expensive option for restaurants that take reservations and as a result, restaurants are reassessing Yelp as a potential offer for their reservation tool.

2) To win on Instagram, consider the tabletop

When designing your restaurant’s space, have you ever considered how the table tops would look in an instagram picture?

As a restaurateur, you want to make the process of sharing an experience at your restaurant as easy and exciting for your guests as possible. That’s why Jen Pelka, owner of the Riddler in San Francisco gave her table tops a “fresh, ‘grammable update”. Check out the full Eater article.

3) How playing the right music can make you more money

Your choice of background music in your restaurant has a big influence on how long your patrons stay, what they order and how satisfied they are with their food.

From your concept to your crowd, music should be one of the factors you pay attention to as a restaurateur to better achieve success. In a recent article by 7shifts, they walk you through the different types of music you can play at your restaurant and how they affect your guests.
